The IAC's legal status is governed by Statutes incorporating it as a Foundation under Netherlands law. The Bylaws deal with the IAC's organizational structure and decision-making processes. The Rules of Procedure deal with meetings and with initiating and conducting studies and other advisory projects.
As a developing organisation, the IAC may adopt additional legal instruments or policy guidelines whenever the need arises. The Review Guidelines and the Financial Protocol are examples of the first category, while the Policy on conflicts of interest, bias, or professional misconduct by members of IAC study panels falls in the second.
