The Secretariat of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity is accepting submission of views on possible targets, indicators and baselines for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and peer review of a document on indicators.

This is the message from Elizabeth Maruma Mrema, Acting Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity :

In recommendation 23/1, the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA) requested the Executive Secretary to invite written submissions from Parties and others on views on possible targets, indicators and baselines related to the drivers of biodiversity loss as well as on species conservation and the mainstreaming of biodiversity across sectors in relation to the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Please note that previous submissions on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, received in response to notifications 2017-124, 2018-063, 2019-008 and 2019075, are accessible at https://www.cbd.int/conferences/post2020/submissions. In the same recommendation, the SBSTTA also requested the Executive Secretary to submit for peer review by Parties and stakeholders the document “Indicators for global and national biodiversity targets – Experience and indicator resources for development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework” (CBD/SBSTTA/23/INF/4). In providing comments on this document, reviewers may also wish to consider information contained in other relevant documents made available for the twenty-third meeting of the SBSTTA including “The post-2020 biodiversity framework: targets, indicators and measurability implications at the global and national level” (CBD/SBSTTA/23/INF/3). In response to these requests, I am pleased to invite submissions and comments respectively.

Submissions and comments should be sent by e-mail to secretariat@cbd.int by 3 February 2020.
